Constitution of the Groove
We The Groove Members, in order to form a more perfect groove, establish time keeping, ensure harmony, provide jams for our audience, promote the general welfare of Funk, and secure the blessings of our metronome, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the Members of the Groove.
Article I (Performance)
Any note that is played by a Member of the Groove must be born of complete awareness and engagement in the present moment.
The Groove Members are not to engage in rehearsal or group practice of any sort, at any time, for any reason.
It is strictly forbidden to play any established passage, song form, or otherwise previously prepared piece of music during a performance.
A Member of the Groove will keep time above all else, committing to the establishment of a deep groove before indulging in any sort of deviation or experimentation thereof.
A Member of the Groove must assess the nature of the sound already present, give listen, and only after achieving a deep appreciation for the sonic environment will they then contribute sound of their own.
All Members of the Groove must consider even the subtlest features of a given performance venue and will adjust their grooves accordingly as to foster a most audio-synchronous performance.
Any performance by any combination of Members of the Groove shall always be recorded for the sake of posterity, formatted in the highest fidelity artistically allowed.
Article II (Mixing)
Edits are to be performed sparingly with purpose and intent as only to frame the eloquence of the performance and not to dilute the nuances of musical conversation.
No additions of musical content of any kind to the recording after the performance is to be allowed.
Additional processing or effects beyond dynamics or equalization are not be to used.
A groove that breaks the rules in Article 1 is not to be released in any capacity under the namesake of The Groove Members.
